CoQsource® Bio-Enhanced Coenzyme Q10
Product Description
Coenzyme Q10 is found in every cell in your body as it is a critical component to energy production at the cellular level. In fact, due to its universal presence in cells, its chemical name is not surprisingly, “ubiquinone,” which is synonymous with “ubiquitous,” or “ever-present.”
Every cell in the body requires CoQ10 for energy production and antioxidant protection, and to enable all cells, tissues and organs to function normally. It is found in every cell of the body and is important for many organs and functions in the body that require a lot of energy, including the heart, brain and immune system, so it is not surprising that CoQ10 is highly concentrated in major organs - the heart, brain, liver and kidneys.
This is particularly important to overall health and energy levels, as our body’s natural levels of CoQ10 decrease with age. CoQ10 supports our body’s ability to help manage stress, which tend to manifest with increasing frequency as we get older. The need for supplementing with CoQ10 is clear and has never been greater. The importance of improving uptake, absorption, and bioavailability is also quite evident.
The worldwide introduction of CoQsource® - featuring VESIsorb® delivery system – for oral application represents a unique and patented solution to improve the absorption of poorly water soluble bio-actives, especially CoQ10 in either the ubiquinol or ubiquinone form.

Market Opportunity
A generally accepted state of “good health” exists when our major tissues and organs optimally produce energy and protect themselves from oxidation. The commonly understood role of CoQ10 in cellular function has helped produce a growing awareness of the value of CoQ10 in health and wellness. The fact that both CoQ10 levels and the body’s ability to manufacture CoQ10 decrease with age, at the same time as we generally need more energy, support for life and protection from stress and a weakened immune system. To make up for this depletion, many people supplement CoQ10, at the same time as the ability of the digestive system to absorb nutrients is also decreasing. As a result, the ability to absorb and utilize CoQ10, becomes and even more critical factor.
Further, the need for supplementing with CoQ10 has never been greater, especially with the dramatic increase in the number of people taking statin drugs. It is well established that statins lower cholesterol by blocking cholesterol synthesis. But statins also block the body’s natural CoQ10 production and deplete CoQ10 stored in the body.
Other factors - aging, illness, disease, degenerative ailments, over-exertion, exposure to chemicals, and lack of a proper diet, to name a few - can also contribute to lower levels of CoQ10. Greater focus is being placed on not only the quality of the CoQ10, but more importantly the amount absorbed into the body. For these reasons, the need for a highly bioavailable CoQ10 has never been greater. Higher absorption translates to greater support of the cardiovascular system; improve function of the mitochondria, reduced production of free radicals, more energy, stamina, and endurance. SourceOne’s CoQsource® is the unique, patented solution to superior CoQ10 absorption.

Innovation:
The technology was developed by Vesifact and is protected worldwide by multiple U.S. and international granted and pending patents. The patented VESIsorb® delivery system is a naturally self-assembling colloidal delivery system that has been clinically proven to increase absorption of medical, nutraceutical, food, beverage, and cosmetic ingredients. The Vesifact VESIsorb® technology is licensed exclusively to SourceOne.

Solutions:
CoQsource® is available in various potencies from 50mg to 200mg in soft gel capsules. It is also available in a novel, proprietary two-piece liquid-filled hard shell capsule, Caplique™, an exclusive from AquaCap, a member of Atrium Innovations’ family of companies.
Our compelling technologies allow us to use the VESIsorb® delivery system in broader applications including:
- two-piece powder-filled hard caps
- vegicaps
- tablets
These technologies are also suitable for instant powder applications including:
- beverage powder sachets
- meal replacement shakes
- protein shakes, and more.
Moreover, Omega-3 can be formulated into the VESIsorb® delivery system with CoQ10 to offer a unique formula in a patented naturally self-assembling association colloidal delivery system.
All of the various VESIsorb® formulas from CoQsource® to combinations of CoQ10 with Omega-3, palm tocotrienol, and more are available in both oil and powder forms.
Clinical Science:
Depleted CoQ10 has been associated with a range of heart conditions (including arrhythmias, strokes, hypertension, heart attacks, and atherosclerosis), and CoQ10 can help prevent and treat these conditions. It also is associated with helping to prevent oxidation of LDL cholesterol. Because of its central role in cell development, it is an energy and brain booster, and can assist in weight loss due to its ability to help speed up metabolism of fats. It has also been successful in fighting periodontal diseases like gingivitis, and in some studies has demonstrated effectiveness as a supplement in treatment of certain cancers, including breast cancer.
In our study ("Relative bioavailability comparison of different Coenzyme Q10 formulations with novel self-assembling association colloid delivery system"; published in Alternative Therapies in Health & Medicine 15(2) 2009, 42-49) CoQsource® was not compared to crystal CoQ10 powder. Three “bio-enhanced” formulas were selected, an oily suspension and two solubilizates.

A pharmacokinetic pilot study (single oral dose, crossover) in humans comparing ubiquinol-QH to the same ubiquinol-QH in the VESIsorb® delivery system (CoQsource® QH exclusively from SourceOne) demonstrated an increase of 696% in peak blood levels (cmax) of ubiquinol. The relative bioavailability calculated using the area under the curve (AUC0-24h) was also increased by 485%.

Cardiology studies with CoQ10 include research on congestive heart failure, ischemic heart disease, and hypertensive heart disease. Supplemental CoQ10 has been found to alter the natural history of cardiovascular illnesses and has the potential for prevention of cardiovascular disease. One recent study reviewed 34 controlled trials and several other studies on CoQ10’s positive effects on cardiovascular disease. Other studies have focused on its antioxidant properties and on its role in recovery from heart attack, improved heart function post-attack, and their positive effect on patients with congestive heart failure, and on its role in decreasing LDL cholesterol oxidation.
