Clinical Science
Scientific research in the East and West has demonstrated evidence for the health benefits associated with green tea. A well-known 1994 study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute showed the results of a study that found that drinking green tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly sixty percent. More recent research at Purdue University found that a compound in green tea inhibits cancer cell growth. Other studies show that drinking green tea may lower total cholesterol levels and improve the ratio of HDL:LDL cholesterol. Green tea and EG/CG are known to have benefits for cancer (including, according to at least one study, the ability to kill cancer cells without harming healthy tissue), rheumatoid arthritis, cardiovascular disease, infections, and impaired immune function.
